We’re working with the people of Calderdale to create a multi-art form environmentally-themed project inspired by the mid-century French allegorical short story, ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’ by Jean Giono.

We are proud our project is one of 11 key commissions for CultureDale, Calderdale's Year of Culture, 2024.
The project is being created and co-curated with a small team of outstanding professional artists, environmental experts, local community groups and Calderdale people who want to be part of it. Live performances of a new play based on the short story will take place over 6 days in July: at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre from 11-14 July and at The Brooksbank School in Elland on 20 & 21 July. Our exhibitions, featuring art made by local people on themes from the story, will run across three venues in Hebden Bridge & Elland from May to July, and we'll be sharing our progress and inviting you to get creative at our Community Creative Days on Saturday 1 June in Todmorden & Saturday 15 June in Rastrick. We want you to join in! Here's how you can a part of it: - Submit your art work to be part of our exhibitions, our open call for art launches 14 March and closes on 17 June. - Come along to a workshop or walk from March to June - Volunteer with us - Join in one of our Creative Community days in June. - Click here for further information and to listen to or read the original story. |
