Community Projects

There have been festivals and pageants in Hebden Bridge going back hundreds of years and the Arts Festival is at the heart of this rich and diverse continuum. In recent years we have been growing towards a more community-based, collaborative model of co-creating and celebrating arts & local culture. This has involved special projects taking place with the participation of people from across Calderdale.
See our Dropdown Menu for the full list of our Community Projects: LAND MARKS, Creative Neighbourhoods, Blue Plaques, Virtual Museum, Weekend of Wonderful Women, Pop Up Museum.

OUR LATEST PROJECT IS 'LAND MARKS'

2022: LAND MARKS

In 2022 Project Manager Clare Danon is leading on our 'LAND MARKS' project where six groups across Calderdale are working with local artists to creatively explore the theme 'Our Local Landscape & Environment'. The makes from the group workshops will be exhibited on 23rd & 24th April 2022 at Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags. More details of the project will be shared throughout 2022.

In 2018 a Weekend of Wonderful Women took place in order to celebrate the centenary of partial suffrage. Hebden Bridge has been long famed for it's vivacious history of politics, feminism, and the wonderful inspirational women that have lived, and continue to live in this town. Over the weekend we celebrated wonderful women - past, present and future.

2016: Who Lived in My Street in 1916 Blue Plaques

Our Blue Plaque project in 2016 invited Hebden Bridge residents to find out about who lived in their properties at the height of the Great War in 1916. Over 300 vinyl blue plaques were printed to be displayed in windows throughout the town, many of which are still in situ. Of the people involved in the project we reached a wide and diverse audience from young families to the residents of local care homes and sheltered accommodation, primary schools to university graduates, locals and visitors.

We are proud to partner with What is Drum CIC

at Is Drum CIC is a not for profit organisation based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

They are the community branch of the performing band Drum Machine. They create inspiring rhythm and music based projects and workshops for the full spectrum of people in our community to join together and thrive; something that is so needed after the repeated lockdowns caused by  the response to covid-19.

The formerly derelict Callis Mill, Halifax Road, Hebden Bridge is their new home and they are fundraising to help them get through Year 1. Please visit their website for more details.
