When I’m Riding My Bike, 2023

Through exploration and discussion, creative writing, storyboarding and audio recording, the children were asked to envisage a future in which we sustain and improve local natural habitats in the face of climate change.

Using bikes as a vehicle for exploration and engagement with the natural environment as well as their artistic medium, the children captured video footage of a guided bike ride via action cameras.

The footage is presented in this short film alongside narration by the children, as they imagine cycling around a greener neighbourhood in Mixenden.

A collection of short films exploring the effects of climate change and what it means through the eyes of the young carers.

Over the space of three days the young carers delved into climate change and the environment, learned the basics of filmmaking then wrote and created four original short films across multiple locations in and around Calderdale. Providing a platform to give young people a voice was at the centre of this project.

With a mix of fiction, spoken word, pieces to camera and a news report, this collection shows a broad range of creativity in response to the prompt: “What does Climate Change mean to you?”
