Discover Powerful Short Films Created by Young Voices in Calderdale
Explore a captivating collection of short films produced by talented artist facilitators in collaboration with young people across Calderdale. These films were proudly showcased during the Open Space 70 Festival in July 2023, as part of the vibrant Arts Trail.

This creative initiative is part of the Engaging Neighbourhoods project, a borough-wide effort to amplify youth perspectives and bring communities together through the arts.

WHEN I'M RIDING MY BIKE, 2023

Artists: Alex Harwood with Aimee, Arthur, Euan, George, Saad and Teddy from Time Out Healthy Minds.

Through exploration and discussion, creative writing, storyboarding and audio recording, the children were asked to envisage a future in which we sustain and improve local natural habitats in the face of climate change.

Using bikes as a vehicle for exploration and engagement with the natural environment as well as their artistic medium, the children captured video footage of a guided bike ride via action cameras.

The footage is presented in this short film alongside narration by the children, as they imagine cycling around a greener neighbourhood in Mixenden.

Artists: Jenny Longworth with Anwen, Mollie, Dylan, Melody, Inayah, Madison, Isaac, Cameron, Essa and Charlie from Calderdale Young Carers.

A collection of short films exploring the effects of climate change and what it means through the eyes of the young carers.
Over the space of three days the young carers delved into climate change and the environment, learned the basics of filmmaking then wrote and created four original short films across multiple locations in and around Calderdale. Providing a platform to give young people a voice was at the centre of this project.

With a mix of fiction, spoken word, pieces to camera and a news report, this collection shows a broad range of creativity in response to the prompt: “What does Climate Change mean to you?”.
