Our 2024 project has now drawn to a close: an exciting multi-art form project for Culturedale 2024 which was inspired by the mid-century French allegorical short story, ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’, by Jean Giono.
We created and performed a new play for audiences of over 700 people in the upper and lower Calder Valleys at theatres in Hebden Bridge and Elland with 11 local young people and 8 adults joining our community cast / chorus, with a giant puppet made with the help of the community and a new script featuring the words of our creative writing workshop participants. We shared creativity, nature and puppet fun with communities in Todmorden and Rastrick in June at two community creative days, and ran over 75 workshops and guided / art walks all across Calderdale between March and June. We had an amazing response to our massive open call for art work in all media on the themes of The Man Who Planted Trees and hosted 3 different art exhibitions of original art work made by our local communities in Hebden Bridge and Elland. Thank you to everyone who came to see a performance of 'The Man Who Planted Trees', joined in a creative workshop, volunteered, made art for exhibition, performed in our cast or chorus, came on a walk with us and/or visited our exhibitions. We really couldn't have done it without you! |
