SPEAKHER - Debbie Sharp

Map Chair, Town Hall(Mon- Fri 9-5, Sat 10-3)
Installation Hope Baptist Church (26-28 October before each of the evening events) - Free

Picture
speakHer is a soundscape by artist Debbie Sharp celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Representation of the People Act. Inspired by Calderdale’s own local Women’s Social and Political Union and Emmeline Pankhurst’s rousing speech in support of the striking weavers on the wooden steps of Bridge Mill, this unapologetic soundscape amplifies what protest means to women today and what is still to be fought for.

ALL THE THINGS THEY NEVER TOLD YOU - Kate Radford

Saturday 11-4, Sunday 12-4, Hope Baptist Church - Free

Picture
All the things they never told you is an immersive intimate installation focused on disarming the negative language and messages that are used against women their whole lives. The installation will be a hyper-feminine, soothing, semi-womb like experience, allowing the audience to feel calm, comforted, beautiful and transformed. We are raised too often to believe in the mistreatment of women is founded, and that we should spend our lives beleiving these negative messages. All the things they never told you tells you the truth about your potential as a woman, and the world that you deserve to live in.

FRIDAY 26th OCTOBER

23 NOVEMBER 2018 - **REARRANGED DUE TO ILLNESS**

PAMPIRIC - Tessa Gordziejko and Alison Andrews

6pm (Doors 5.30pm), The Banyan Tree, Market Street - Free

Picture
A pair of two thousand year old women congratulate each other on stealing youth from the young. They’re certainly Looking Well. They have the key to eternal beauty.

Rejuvenating treatments are just one of the things where well-provided-for Baby Boomers can choose to spend their Grey Pound. Whether in pursuit of bucket lists, luxury breaks, renewal or naturopathy, the ‘Me Time’ options for comfortably-off older women are as dizzying as an overdose of Ginseng.

On the other side of the room, the people providing the treatments may have fewer choices.

Alison Andrews and Tessa Gordziejko are ticking things off their Bucket Lists. Braving a theatrical bungee jump into the Pamper industry. Join them for the start of the conversation, part scratch performance, part discussion group, to ask : are we pursuing self-empowerment for older women? Or draining the life force from young people in pursuit of our own eternal youth?

GRACE PETRIE
